Agriculture
Agriculture is resilient and sustainable to economic development and to the women of Oshie village, smallholder farmers, and women-headed households, particularly lack the funds and means needed for improved working tools, which will increase their farm products and agro-business output. SOH with the help of donations, will furthermore teach the Oshie women/girls to learn, how to cope with means and strategies to tackle some new diseases affecting crops and late rains which also affect production with the collective knowledge and resources pooled together, this will enable them to purchase improved technology and processing equipment.
Additionally, SOH together with donations from goodwill individuals, companies, partners, and governments will successfully create a microcredit scheme, and co-operative initiative to encourage collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture.
Nonetheless, SOH, membership has successfully implemented the distribution of hoes to all the Oshie women in the village, the goal now is to scale up these efforts re-design, and integrate bigger projects to increase farm-to-market production. SOH will also introduce the rearing of domestic animals which will diversify, their production and consumption.
Health
To improve on the poor health of women in our community, we would provide funding for clothing, and sanitary pads, and hire a health education teacher for girls. We will be working in collaboration with the overseer of the Oshie Health Center to hire a nurse to address women’s health issues. Organize workshops and programs addressing women’s health issues like birth control, sexually transmissible diseases STD, breast cancer/breast self-exam, ovarian cancer, other women’s cancers, menstruation and menopause, pregnancy and childbearing, breastfeeding, and women and heart disease. We would also help women with mental health issues get more education about their mental health and how it affects their overall health.
Nutrition Programs
Nutrition is the study of how food affects the body and the process of providing the body with the nutrients it needs to function properly. SOH wants to promote healthy eating habits and provide access to nutritious food to Oshie girls, intending to improve their overall health and well-being. We aim to educate Oshie girls on the benefits of a balanced diet and provide them with the resources and support to make healthy food choices. Due to their limited resources, we plan to guide them on how to eat a balanced meal full of vegetables, proteins from plants, fewer carbohydrates, and fruits. We want to empower Oshie girls to take control of their health and improve their quality of life through good nutrition.
Education
As a 501 (c) (3) Organization, we are dedicated to educating women. With the support of the community and our donors, we could provide funding for young girls in elementary through high schools and scholarship opportunities for those in higher education like universities in Cameroon. For those with a preference for vocational education, we will also provide financial support for them as well as encourage girls to get into STEM programs. We will also sponsor girls and married women for job/life skill training, apprenticeship (hairdressing, nails, sewing/designing), and workshops. We will also create programs and videos that bring about awareness of issues like bullying, early marriage, domestic violence, and other compelling/pertinent issues. The hope is to improve the standard of living for these educated women – having fewer children, employment, and an overall higher standard of living.
Volunteering
SOH is committed to making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate locally and globally. We do this by showing and providing meaningful volunteer opportunities to Oshie girls to empower them to positively impact their lives and the Oshie community as a whole. We, as an organization, will start volunteering at different homeless shelters in our community and provide meals to those in need, thus leading by example. This will go a long way to educate and empower our girls to help others in need.
Additionally, our goal is to build relationships with those we serve and offer support and encouragement. Nonetheless, to volunteer, we will raise funds and receive donations, which will be sent to Oshie village, geared towards helping the Oshie girl child. SOH believes that by working together, we can make a positive impact in the world and inspire others to join us in our mission of hope and compassion.
Empowerment
Empowering a girl child in rural cooperative areas is crucial for sustainable development. Education is the foundation of her empowerment. By ensuring she has access to quality schooling, we enable her to dream beyond traditional roles and contribute meaningfully to cooperative initiatives.
Providing mentorship and life skills training boosts her confidence and equips her to make informed decisions. Teaching her about her rights, reproductive health, and financial literacy prepares her for future challenges and opportunities.
Empowering a girl child means giving her the tools and freedom to succeed. When she prospers, her community benefits, leading to a brighter and more equitable future for all.
Together, we can create a world where every girl has the opportunity to reach her full potential and contribute to the growth and success of her community.
